Really, Fox News??

They don't like Mr. Rogers.

Now who hasn't heard this before?  "Our generation is swell, but I'm worried about the next generation."

EVERY GENERATION THAT'S EVER EXISTED has thought this.

  1. TRUE

I kind of think though that self-esteem movement HAS screwed us over though... I think it creates lazy kids.

  2. I definitely agree, and I think there's something to self-esteem movement that is somewhat harmful. But I think I disagree with Fox on the idea that Mr. Rogers had anything to do with that (maybe he does, and I'm just being nostalgic :-D). Mr. Roger's idea and premise is true and something I think kids do need to hear.

I'm torn, because I think kids need encouragement and need to know they are significant no matter what (while reading about childhood development it seems encouragement is significantly important for children). But at the same time there needs to be maybe more teaching on responsibility. I don't know. What can be done to even things out?

(I have to admit I'm pretty ignorant in this area, you are probably much more knowledgeable about stuff like this :-) )

  3. I get frustrated with my students because they all have to have an equal share in EVERYTHING. It frustrates me because if I praise another student, they EXPECT me to praise them next because...well, that's just fair, isn't it? For our end of year program, we have to give a certificate of achievement to each of the students...even if they are failing or have bad behavior. We have to find SOMETHING the kids are good at it...even if they don't deserve it! Blah.
