Can I take your picture?
"Hey Liam, can I take your picture real quick?"
He looked at me and didn't say anything. Just stopped playing with his deflating Toy Story ball and walked over to me. Although he's still working on verbal affirmations, much of his physical demeanor now gives a signal that he understands.
"Let me sit you on this log and I'll take a picture." I say things simply and repeatedly.
He lets me pick him up. I set him on the log, and he smiles. And he waits for me to take a picture.
Honestly, this really isn't a big deal. Obviously there's not much to it. I've just been so amazed lately at what all he is able to do and understand. And I don't mean that in a "My child is the greatest kid ever! He's a genius!" way. I mean that in a way that only exposes my own ignorance. I am constantly astonished at the rate that children learn and grow. These are all probably things I should have read up on by now, but I'm still in the dark as to when kids can do what exactly. Every day feels like a new surprise.
